Tel: (718) 270-1981 | Fax: (718) 270-3843 e-mail: vtak@downstate.edu About: Dr. Tak completed his Medical education, General Surgery and Cardiothoracic Surgery training from Calcutta, India. He then trained in the United Kingdom for 4 years including his Senior Registrarship at Papworth Hospital, Cambridge. He also acquired the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons from Edinburgh. Dr. Tak then worked for 2 years at the Heart Institute at St. Vincent's Hospital in Portland, Oregon with Dr. Albert Starr. He then completed a General Surgery Residency at New York Hospital of Queens in New York and a Cardiothoracic Surgery Residency at St. Louis University in St. Louis Missouri. Dr. Tak performs the entire spectrum of Cardiac Surgical Operations, especially using arterial grafts for coronary surgery, valve repairs and surgery for atrial fibrillation, and complex Adult Cardiac Surgery. He also performs all major General Thoracic operations, including lung surgery for cancer and benign conditions, Pleural and Mediastinal diseases, minimally invasive and video assisted surgery for Axillary and Palmar hyperhidrosis and Thoracic Splanchnicectomy for chronic and intractable pain. Dr. Tak has a keen interest in clinical research, and is well published. One of his recent publications is a Review article on the current status of multimodality
