About:

Dr. Sugiyama graduated from City University of New York with a Bachelor of Arts Degree with Honors and then received his medical degree from the State University of New York-Downstate College of Medicine in 2005. He completed General Surgery Residency at the State University of New York-Downstate Medical Center and its Affiliated Hospital in 2010.

Dr. Sugiyama is actively involved with resident and medical student education. He is a recepient of numerous teaching awards, including 2012 Faculty Honoree (Excellence in Graduate Medical Education), The Warren Wetzel Award For Excellence in Teaching (2011), Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching (2013) among others.

Dr. Sugiyama is Board Certified in General Surgery. His clinical interests are in complex abdominal wall reconstruction surgery, hernia repair, robotic and minimally invasive surgery.
