About:

Having earned his medical degree from Pennsylvania State University in 1983, Dr. Bernstein completed his surgical residency at the Kings County Hospital/State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate Medical Center in 1988.  He currently holds the rank of Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at SUNY-Downstate Medical Center where he is extensively involved in the Surgical Residency Training Program, serving as the Associate Program Director since 2011 and winning numerous awards for teaching. 

Dr. Bernstein is actively involved in multiple Surgical Societies both regionally and nationally, and has held multiple officer positions throughout his career.  He presently serves as a Governor of the American College of Surgeons since 2008, a member of the Executive Committees of the New York Surgical Society and the Brooklyn Surgical Society, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Brooklyn/Long Island Chapter of the American College of Surgeons where he is Chair of the Applicant Committee, District #1. 

Dr. Bernstein has been board certified in General Surgery since 1989 and his areas of expertise include abdominal, breast and hernia surgery.
